Sometimes, a boy's best friend is a wolf.
"Deep peace of the flowing air to you.
Deep peace of the quiet earth to you.
Deep peace of the shining stars to you.
Deep peace of the infinite peace to you".
~ An ancient Celtic blessing
In ancient Ireland, somewhere between myth and truth, a human boy was surrounded a band of terrible beasts from the darkest corners of Otherworld that tempted him with great power if he joined their army that would bring darkness and death to the world. He bravely refused, causing the creatures to become enraged and attack him. A brave female wolf saw this terrible act and believing it to be very unfair and dishonorable for so many to attack someone so small, swooped in and saved the boy, killing many of them but losing her own life during the fight. Pleased to see this selflessness, a powerful falcon wizard that protects humankind endows the wolves the gift of human speech, the ability to stand on two legs, long life, but most of all, supernatural strength, speed, and magical powers. In return, the Talking Wolves must guard the human children from the unseen evil spirits that haunt this realm, just like the female wolf did with the boy. From then on, they and their descendants fulfilled this sacred mission.
These humanized Irish Talking Wolves called themselves the Pack and between 440 AD and 740 AD, they lived side by side with the Irish humans as their protectors and friends. Don’t let their huge size and vicious looks fool you. They were a friendly sort, considering themselves to be the animal champions of a courageous group of humans that traveled the Celtic lands and all over to rid the world of evil and oppression. Unfortunately, the golden age of the Pack was short-lived. A sorceress, bent on revenge against the Pack, killed the son of the human High King and made it look as if the Pack did the evil deed. The High King, filled with grief and anger, put the Pack to the sword. Those that were able to flee the massacre, escaped to the future. Now, many live among us, magically disguised as humans to hide their lupine natures. A few of these fantastic creatures now reveal their true identities to you as they continue their ancient mission to befriend, to protect, and to show humankind the true Light.
In this present day realm, Caedmon “C. B.” Brennan has a big problem. He’s a cool and popular Sophomore at a high school in a small Florida coastal town, having to cope with maintaining his reputation, juggling schoolwork and sports, and of course, girls. That would be okay, except he has forgotten what he is, a Talking Wolf from Ireland magically disguised as a human. He also has a destiny. Now, he must fulfill that destiny: protect a nine-year-old human boy named Carlos Salinas from evil spirits that seek to destroy him.
C. B.’s life is forever changed. Along with trying to maintain his popularity, he must deal with having magical powers, the desire of a powerful evil being called the Dark One to kill him, and a Wolf girl named Brianna O’Callaghan that has a huge crush on him and will not leave him alone. Most boys would eat this excitement up, but C. B. hates being reminded that he’s Irish, that he’s a little different from his human peers. Never mind that he’s a Talking Gray Wolf. As he learns to control his pride and his embarrassment over and prejudice against his Irish heritage with a lot of help from his human friends, his lupine family, and other Talking Wolf pups, he finds that it’s what is on the inside that counts with others, not being cool. Welcome to the world of the Pack.
